Cozy Little Kitchen

The kitchen is finally done... and we love it!

Here's a summary of what all we did...
  • lowered the raised bar & installed white Corian counters (extended them a couple inches too)
  • installed an undermount, stainless, tight-radius Ticor sink with grids (which is amazing btw)
  • re-plumbed the sink & into the wall to keep the disposal (Jesse did an awesome job!)
  • put in a Grohe LadyLux3 faucet (the crown-jewel of the kitchen)
  • installed a ModDotz penny-round back splash
  • replaced a window shade with Emma Jeffs' Orba film
  • painted the back door bright red
  • put up a little chalkboard behind the clock
  • added 3 blue Glenn stools from Ikea
  • the Nelson Saucer (ok, that was a while ago, but I still consider it a big thing)
So it's all done now, and we don't regret a thing! We did all the demo & tiling ourselves, and it wasn't so bad at all. The best improvements are the sink/faucet area & that big expanse of countertop on the peninsula. It just feels so much bigger & brighter now! Hope you guys like it as much as we do... :)

That is a sweet little kitchen! It's so clean and simple looking, yet cozy and inviting.

Thanks guys! Glenda- decision making didn't take long- maybe a week or two? We had to wait a little under a month I think for the contractor to get the countertop ready. The demo took a 3 day weekend & the tiling took 2 days (including wait time). It was drawn out by company visiting amid it all, but overall, not long at all!

Beautiful Kitchen ! Wonderfully decorated ~ enjoy and thank you for posting on my blog.
Best to you!

Amy

I *love* the backsplash/tiling! How hard was that to do? Great job!

Tess Carter

Amy-
I was prepared for it to be difficult, as I've heard penny rounds are among the hardest tile to lay, but I didn't think it was a at all! I just took my time & followed the general guidelines you can find at DIY places online. We were able to cut the tiles just using nippers, which also made it easier. I did have to improvise some with the space I was working in- it was SO much easier to just use my hands for the grout!!! I did use the sponge for it- just not the grout float. I was able to use the notched trowel for the thinset, but would have greatly benefited from a much smaller one.

If you don't mind me asking, how long did all of this take you, start to finish? I feel like my house projects just drag on and on. Where you guys done within a week or so, or did you take a month or more?
