At Ikea a while back I was delighted to find several cute, bold fabrics... on sale! They were perfect for re-upholstering my 3 side chairs (which previously sported a white faux-leather that was pretty beat up).

I really like the bold patterns on your chair.
very nice! I love always your style.
i love all of theseeee especially the matching blue light in the second one!
I can't believe how you manage to make everything match! My first apartment with my boyfriend is going to be just a major clash of taste.
This is really pretty! nice work :)
Do you do the upholstery yourself? .. you should post a tutorial ;)
MME- it's taken a while to get that way lol
Life Smart it- I did do it myself, but I hesitate to post a tutorial because these chairs are so simple! It's literally just a piece of wood with some foam on top. You lay the fabric, pull taught around the wood, staple to the back, and set the wood back on the chair.
Love them ♥ ♥ ♥
Wonderful photos and patterns.
Walking into the fabric section of ikea is like walking into an art gallery for me....I wonder if they know its one of my fun sources of inspiration......Pam
YAY! For Ikea. Love those bold fabrics :) T.

What great bold patterns/colors!
LOVE!!! tess, you are an inspiration!
Hi,
You have good taste and I really like the dark floor, the door and other pieces of furniture.
If you don't mind me asking - I do think that you did a great job with tose patterns - how come a person with such good pieces of furniture (at least they seem to be) buys at the Ikea ? :-)
I mean, I don't have anything against the Ikea, but a solid mahogany furniture still is a solid mahogany furniture.
Take care,
José
José-
Actually, QUITE a bit of our furnishings come from Ikea. :) That's blended with hand-me-downs, some antiques, and some higher-end pieces. I'm not usually OK with spending a lot on things unless it's something I absolutely fall in love with- and I don't want to have to worry about 'wear & tear' on such pieces. The chairs I upholstered are actually red oak & were handed down to me from my parents (they were in pretty poor shape too). I have several solid wood antiques that can vouch for the fact that just because it's wood doesn't mean it's automatically 'best' or built to last.
The thing about Ikea is knowing what to look for. Our dining table is solid oak with a leaf expanding it to seat 10 people. We bought it at Ikea... for $300. I've found that you can get some much more reasonably priced design in just as good of quality there (if you do your research). Another blogger once commented after visiting a DWR warehouse sale that chipped veneer looks JUST as bad on a top dollar DWR side table as it does on a cheap Ikea bookcase (I think it was Anna from Door Sixteen). She is so right...
:) It's not about brand names, or just quality or just price... it's about finding the best quality for the best price that works with your lifestyle- and for me, Ikea can often fill a great need! :)
