Dear Dryer...

Dear Dryer,
You are a part of this family. Everyone in this family has a job. The boo is precious and graces us with his beautiful fur. The pup is adorable and follows around the Tess being affectionate. The dishwasher cleans the dishes. You are supposed to dry clothes, so why are you not doing your job? I don't care if you are 17 years old, it should not take 1 hr and 30 minutes to dry a small load of whites. Shape up or you will be replaced with a cheaper-to-run gas dryer. Stop giving me grief and just dry my clothes consistently.
Love,
Tess

That load must've really filled up the lint collector...

Similar to what Nell said, I'd check the dryer duct in the house and the external vent, too. If it's designed well, it should vent outdoors via a smooth, large conduit and exit through a flapper door without a screen. And the shorter the distance the better. But at the Hacienda our dryer was behaving very badly for a while so I investigated. Turns out the house duct ran to an always-open vent with a screen to keep bugs out. So the screen was full of lint and the dryer couldn't vent properly. After cleaning that out and trying to clean out the ducts as best I could, the dryer worked great.

I wish is was that easy Brian! The vent is fine as is the air-flow. Lint trap is all cleared. Rotating well, and it heats up. We're assuming the only thing it can be is the heating element (it heats up, but it must not be getting hot enough). Service guy coming Wednesday said over the phone he thinks it's probably the thermostat. It's 17 yrs old though (and the previous owner had 3 little kids- so heavily used!), so we're seriously thinking (with the approaching black friday) that it would be better to just buy a new one now as opposed to putting money into such an old one. We'll see what the service guy says though...

LOL

I am in need of a new one myself. But the cost of those fancy ones kill me.

I know! It's ridiculous how expensive some are! We're hoping to take advantage of some of the good black friday sales though!

Oh My! I know what that is like. Sounds to me the same as it happend to my old dryer, the heating element is going out. I told my old dryer Goodbye and I'm happy I didn't fool with another repair and got a new one instead. The new one does it's job in less than half the time and my electric bill benefits from the exchange quite a bit too. So don't be sad...nothing lasts forver...and for sure not a dryer ;)
